BADA type housing is similar to a WADA located in the inner city Amravati which is 125 years old. The term bada is also used for big courtyard which comes from olden times. This big central courtyard in between the build space can also be defined as bad. It is an incremental kind of house, which slowly gets constructed according to the needs of the family. There was one big joint family that was living there 100 years back but over the years they parted due to the growth of the family and need for more space, the family broke down and turned into nuclear families. Due to which some parts of the house were redeveloped while some new parts were also constructed. This developed into the house which is currently standing as Bada. Each family living has its kitchen, bathroom, and a space where the family sleeps and does their other activities.

The building is located in the center of the market and it is said to have some shops inside the house which are now converted into living spaces. Due to which there are some basements or as they call it as 'ladni' is seen in the house. There are also some passages like tunnels connecting one part of the house from the other. These tunnels were also used as a source of exchanging messages .
Incrementality becomes a major part of the bada, the shift in the space over the 100 years from a small one-bedroom, kitchen and bathroom to a big house with many spaces of different kinds. The growth of the family becomes one of the important reasons for the incremental growth of the house, also the disputes over the land, divide the house into different parts.
Also, a shift in the use of the construction material has been seen throughout the building in years. The oldest parts of the building can be seen in wooden frame work with thin bricks while the newer part is the rcc framework. Some of the parts of the building are load-bearing structures with thick walls which are 70 -80 cm thick.
Talking about the construction aspect of the building such as 1 m deep niches can be seen which becomes a storage space which makes the wall 1.5m thick. The staircases can be seen as niches carved into the walls, whereas some staircases stand on a single arch.
The floor height can be seen as low as 1.8 meters. Zharookha ( windows on the upper floor from where you can see below floors ) can be seen which tells the cultural history of that place. Small niches for lighting diyas or khooti ( an ornamental wooden projection to hang things was especially used to hang diya in the olden times) can be seen on every wall of the olden part of the building .

Visual connectivity becomes a major part of the building as well as all the rooms and built such that every part can be seen from any part of the bada . The observation was made through the window conversation happening inside the building between the ladies . Every small activity can be noted very easily from every corner .Observations were made that the bada has a very good visual connectivity due to the central courtyard and material and the wall makes its space more interesting.
